For the days you want to take it slow, hangout here at The Hideaway on our beachfront-jungle grounds, complete with upscale amenities and tons of on-site activities.
Pool
Refresh in our infinity pool with the ocean breeze and a cocktail in hand, chill on a shady poolside chaise lounger, or one of our cozy daybeds. The view and the vibe are unparalleled. Even our pool features designer luxury tiles imported from a company in Spain with ethos just like ours.
Zen
Find your Zen by attending one of our yoga offerings, which take place on our beachfront almond-wood yoga deck, strategically placed within our old growth palms overlooking the ocean. Or spoil yourself with a massage while listening to the chirping jungle and sounds of the ocean.
The Clubhouse
If you’ve run out of books, feel free to borrow one from our library corner, located in The Hideaway’s Clubhouse attached to the restaurant. Or if you really enjoy a good old-fashioned board game, we’ve got a bunch. For the kids, or your inner child, we recognize the timelessness of Super Mario and have the Super Nintendo setup to match. Whatever your pleasure, our clubhouse is the perfect place to chill and relax in a beanbag chair. Make this space your communal living room.
SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard)
We have 4 boards here at The Hideaway and the perfect bay for heading out on the water at high tide. Head out solo, as a couple, or a little SUP gang and get your paddle groove on!
Star Gazing
Stare up into the night sky amongst a mess of pillows on our ultra-comfy stargazing platform. It’s conveniently located just behind the bar for easy refill access. Lay back, gaze up, and enjoy. With almost zero light pollution here at The Hideaway, the view is out of this world.
Shuffleboard
Not much more to say about it other than it’s beachfront and we recommend playing with a beer in hand.
Disc Golf
What is disc golf? Grab a frisbee and follow the rules of golf. We have 9 holes set up on-site. It’s fun for all ages and also pairs well with a cerveza.
Bon Fire
There’s something romantic and nostalgic about a fire on the beach. We offer weekly bonfires that start with s’mores “for the kids” and typically end with Negroni’s and beachy tunes.
Movie Nights
Join us in our restaurant & bar for a movie night. We have a projector, loads of movies, (and popcorn of course)!
Horseback Riding
Enjoy a morning or evening horseback ride on our secluded beach with our trusted local cowboy.
THE ISLANDS
Hop on a boat and head out to one of the many white sand beaches that surround the Santa Catalina area. They are famous for their turquoise waters (a rarity on the Pacific), white sands, and secluded surf breaks. Whether your inner explorer seeks to dive, snorkel, surf, or bird, we will help plan your perfect day trip. And don’t forget to take one of our coolers packed with a gourmet lunch, drinks, and Rosé (if that’s what you’re into).
Coiba National Park
Ranked as Panama’s #2 tourist destination behind The Panama Canal, these islands are about an hour and thirty minute boat ride from Santa Catalina and are definitely a must see! The park is an untouched marine reserve with 38 islands and 430,000 acres of natural beauty. Ranked as one of the top diving and snorkelling places in the world it’s a perfect place to explore the beauty under the sea. During certain times of the year large marine animals such as Whale Sharks, Humpbacks, Pilot Whales and many more call this place home. Don’t be surprised if you see a group of Bottlenose Dolphins jumping and playing along your ride as well as rays breaching the water. Click here to check out Ryan and Anthea’s open water certifications completed at Coiba National Park. For a day of Snorkelling you can expect to pay ~$80pp, while a day of diving costs between $160-$190pp depending on the dive centre.
Cebaco Island
Cebaco is a short 30 minute boat ride from us. The area is famous for world-class fishing, snorkelling, turquoise waters, private beaches and secluded surf breaks. Click here to check out our trip to Cebaco!
Santa Catalina Island
This island doesn’t boast the same aquatic wildlife as Coiba or Cebaco but you can kayak over to it from the Santa Catalina town beach. It’s the perfect secluded white sand beach to hit up if you are on more of a budget. Head over for a full or half-day with a cooler and a beach towel to relax in privacy.
Gobernadora Island
Often missed by tourists, but also a 30 minute boat ride from us, Gobernadora is known for its decent trail system (which takes about 3 hours to hike) that winds through the island’s forest with excellent birding along the way. This island that has no cars or roads also boasts both white and black sand deserted beaches. In July and August, whales make their way through the offshore waters. Snorkeling can be done in some areas too.
PLAY AWAY
You came to explore, right? The surrounding area of The Hideaway is full of beauty, adventure and life. We offer a free shuttle that is timed with dive schedules, surf swell, and sunsets that takes our guests into and out of the popular town of Santa Catalina. We can organize any and all of your adventures through local and reliable amigos and top them off with a cooler and some beach chairs to make it that much sweeter!
Dive/Snorkel
Santa Catalina is the main access point to get to Coiba National Park, the largest Marine Park in all of Central America. Coiba Island is often compared to the Galapagos, as it is home to many endemic species of flora and fauna. With a huge variety of marine species and coral reef that has been spared from the El Nino bleaching effects, your diving/snorkel adventure will be sure to not disappoint. We work with a number of local diving and adventure tour operators that can help us organize your perfect underwater adventure!
Click here to check out Ryan and Anthea’s open water certifications completed at Coiba National Park.
Surf
The beaches in Santa Catalina and the surrounding islands offer waves for all levels of surfers. If you’re learning we can connect you with the certified surf instructors that taught us to surf. More advanced? Head out to La Punta, a world- class point break with year-round offshore winds and consistency. The waves at the point come in at 4-12 feet and peak out at 20 feet on big days. Head down in green season when it’s really pumping and you may even score your own private break for some of your sessions.
And of course, The Hideaway offers board rentals if you didn’t bring your own. Let us know what your perfect surf adventure is and we’ll make it happen.
For the Foodies
In addition to our on-site restaurant, Sobremesa, Santa Catalina has a number of great restaurants throughout the town. We would be happy to recommend them and shuttle you back and forth so you don’t have to worry about how many cervezas you’ve had.
Fishing
Our surrounding islands are known for world-class fishing. If this is something that sparks your interest let us know ahead of time and we will set you up with some of the local fisherman for a day on the water.
Choose Your Own Adventure
Just a short drive from us are many other local attractions, including beautiful beaches, hikes, and stunning waterfalls. Let us know what you would like to see and we will pack a cooler, load up the truck and have our very own guide lead you on a personalized adventure!
